Mountain Community Homes Contributes to Cell Phones for Soldiers

Fort Drum Mountain Community Homes, LLC, the public/private partnership between the Department of the Army and Actus Lend Lease (Actus), is proud to donate more than 111 cellular phones, batteries and SIM cards to Kelly Services for Cell Phones for Soldiers.

The cell phones are collected, recycled and sent to ReCellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each phone donated.  The proceeds are used to buy prepaid calling cards for the Troops serving in the Middle East.

Cell Phones for Soldiers is a non-profit organization created by two teenagers from Massachusetts.  The non-profit organization has raised more than $1 million in donations and distributed more than 500,000 prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas.

“Mountain Community Homes is proud partner with Kelly Services to support our U.S. Troops by contributing to this worthy cause,” states Joseph E. McLaughlin, Fort Drum Mountain Community Homes Project Director.

In addition to the 111 cellular phones already donated, Mountain Community Homes is calling upon all staff and residents to continue donating cellular phones and accessories in support of the Cell Phones for Soldiers organization. Residents are encouraged to drop off their cellular phones to their Community Center.
